What is an Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that a periodontist places into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or another reason. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support. Dental implants feel natural so you may forget you ever lost a tooth. Why not contact us today to discuss the procedure in greater detail.

The most common applications:

Replacement of one, more or all missing teeth
Replacement of full or partial denture(s)
Support a bridge
Support and fix of a removable full or partial denture

What is the age limit of an implant application?

Implants can be used for any healthy person of any age.

Fitting the implant:

Fitting of the implant is done with a suitable anesthesia. The patient feels very little discomfort.

Care of implants:

After the implants are fitted it is important for the patient to keep them clean. Instruction on the care and cleaning of the implants will be issued by us following your treatment.

Prosthesis on implants:

The implant is cylindrical in shape, resembling a screw, and may even have a thread-like surface. They're uniquely designed with small holes at the outside surfaces for a very good reason. Like the roots of natural teeth, tooth implants stimulate bone growth. It even fools Mother Nature! Over time, the bone tissue actually grows into the small holes, securing the implant.

Advantages of implants:

Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent.

Improved speech. With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that your teeth might slip.

Improved comfort. Because they become part of you, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.

Easier eating. Sliding dentures can make chewing difficult. Dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain.

Improved self-esteem. Dental implants can give you back your smile, and help you feel better about yourself.

Improved oral health. Dental implants don't require reducing other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving your long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene.

Durability. Implants are very durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime.

Convenience. Removable dentures are just that; removable. Dental implants eliminate the embarrassing inconvenience of removing your dentures, as well as the need for messy adhesives to keep your dentures in place.

Advantages of implants:

The primary limiting factor in implant therapy is the amount of bone available to support the implant in the lower or upper jaw. There are a number of tests to assess the amount of bone in the jaw. If a patient does not have enough bone to support an implant, bone grafting will then be advised.

Costs:

Dental implantation is the most complex treatment in dentistry. Dental1Holidays have a set price per implant which is 795.00.

Our Dentist (Dr.Dt.Mehmet Derici) who is based in Istanbul specializes in implantation and has the latest technology in his surgery. During the consultation you can discuss the treatment process with the dentist who speaks fluent English.

Solutions with implants:

You can have many alternatives with dental implants. The alternatives depend on how many implants you would like to have replacing your missing teeth. You will discuss with our dentist the possible solutions and we will help you to choose the solution, which suits you best. For example, if you would like to substitute one missing tooth, you can have a dental implant with a crown; or you may substitute all your missing teeth with implants or combine implants with bridges and dentures.

Implantation Steps:

1st Visit. Status Assessment and Extraction
During the first visit you will need to have a dental examination to determine whether the dental implant is the best option for you. You will have a panoramic digital X-Ray and several tests to ensure your jawbone is healthy enough to carry out the implant procedure.

If you are in very good health without any dental complications and your jawbone is strong enough, you may need only two visits or a week to obtain the new teeth. Unfortunately, this is a rare case. There are advertisements offering immediate implants, or one day implants. However be aware as most patients are not suitable for one day implants.

2nd Visit. Implantation and Temporary Crown(s)
During your second visit, our dentist will set the implant (the titanium rod (s)) and you will receive a temporary crown. This requires a small surgical procedure when the dentist will prepare the gum in order to gain access to your jawbone. The bone is prepared and the implant is set into the jawbone with high precision. Finally, the dentist completes the bone graft and prepares a temporary crown.

3rd Visit. Final Crown, Bridge or Denture
The third visit takes a week and requires two visits. After the implant and bone have integrated, you need to return to the clinic for our dentist to fix the final crown, bridge or denture to the dental implant. During this visit the dentist will assess the bone integration and create the teeth impressions. The impressions are then sent to our dental laboratory to manufacture your perfect crown, bridge or denture. On the fifth working day or around a week later when the final crown, bridge or denture has been prepared, you will visit our dentist in order for him to fix your perfect smile.
